All of you know that raw food or food material can’t be kept
as it is they need to be converted into processed food or material so we can
store and use them for long time .So we need food processing , it’s nothing but
converting raw food into processed form for consumption .For example mills, pickles industry ,Baking industry etc.
So micro food processing enterprises are the units or the enterprise started by
the persons or group of person on small scale.
PM- FME scheme (Formalization of Micro Food Processing
Enterprises):
It’s a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the ministry of food processing industries to give boost by bringing new technologies and providing affordable credit requirements of the enterprise so that they can enter and compete in the market. Under Atamnirbhar Baharat govt launched the scheme with Rs.10, 000 cr. According to the officials it’s a five year scheme (up to 2024-25).Aimed at Rs.35000 Cr investment generation and generating 9 lakh jobs and Helping 8 lakh units.The share of Central and state government for this scheme were 60:40.

Need of the new
scheme:
*In India we are having unorganized and informal about 25
lakhs of food processing enterprise which are 98% of the whole food processing
sector.
* Nearly 66 % of these units were in rural areas and mostly
they are family based.
*As they are unregistered and unorganized sector they will
not get the most of the benefits and facilitates from the government.
* The main problems were:-
-Not able to get the required credit requirements.
- Lack of modern technologies and facilities for maintaining
health and safety standards.
- High cost if they want institutional credits.
-lack of proper management in food chain supply.
* Due to lack of proper storage and transportation and management
facilities wastage of food.
* So to overcome all these problems government had launched the
new scheme to strengthen the micro food processing enterprises.
*Both at central and state level the government will notify
the Nodal agency and departments for the implementation of the scheme.
* The nodal agency and department will prepare annual plan
and other requirements and third party evaluation will be done from time to
time.
Benefits:
1. For individual micro units:
* Credit facility at 35% cost of the project cost (maximum
of Rs.10 lakh) and 10 % of the project cost has to be contributed by the
beneficiaries
* Also eligible for getting onsite skill training and other technical
assistance.
2. For SHG/FPOs /Cooperatives:
* Capital amount of Rs.4 lakhs/SHG as loan for members for
their working capital and small tools.
* They will get the grant for activities like inputs requirement,
materials, and common infrastructure, packaging, marketing and branding facilities.
* They will also get the skill training and technical assistance.
* Also get the credit linked capital subsidy.
* Around 8 lakhs enterprises will be benefited through this scheme
and were get better exposures and formalization.
* Formalization of the enterprise will help them to grow and
competent in the market and connect them to organized markets.
* The projects is expected to produce around 9 lakhs skilled
and semi-skilled jobs.
* Beneficiaries will get better access to sorting, grading,
processing and other services.
This programme is based on cluster approach, the main focus
on perishable items. Women entrepreneurs and aspirational districts will be
more focused, attention will be given minor forest produce in tribal areas and
are encouraged for waste to wealth activities.
The government has launched the scheme with good objectives
which will benefit the entrepreneurs. Under Atmanirbar bharat campaign this scheme
can make the entrepreneurs to access the better
facilities and make them competitive in the market.
