As we knew the modern era is full of information technology and internet is used in all the fields .in agriculture field also the information technology is being used .Many apps and websites/portals were developed to help the farmers in getting the information required .So in this blog I will explain the Farmers portal developed by the ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare, government of India.

Farmers  portal:

This is a free portal developed by the ministry for in order to provide all the information relating to agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and other information. From this portal can get required information through the SMS, email, and audio/videos in their local language at district/block/village levels .The details about different inputs, markets, advisory, weather information. Overall the portal will provide all in one information from sowing to the marketing this will avoid the farmers   for visiting/searching for the different unrelated websites. The information on the portal is fully authenticated and government provided.

Features of the portal:

As said earlier this portal is a multipurpose one, so you will find the following features under this portal like

1 Agriculture & Horticultural corner:

 In this section you will get the following information

Pesticides  of machines and the dealers along with IPM practices under different crops, you will get the details about the dealers/manufactures, farmer guide and video clips about the working .

Crop management: In this sections we get information about the extension activities like demonstrations, farmer friend, farm school, package of practices , agromet advisory in English and in local language and you will get farmer friendly materials in booklets and flyers best practical videos, handbooks and agriculture innovation.

Post-Harvest: in this you will get the details about the storage /warehouse details in your areas, and you will knew about the MSP and market prices for different crops.

Risk management: in this you will get the details about drought management the details about the records of previous droughts occurred in different areas. The soil fertility maps of different states. Contingency plans for the different areas. App is developed for the calculation for the crop losses due to hail storms.

NADAMS: The farmers can get the details about the National Agriculture Drought Assessment and monitoring system. It will helps in better understanding about the crop insurance scheme.

PMFBY: you can also get all the details about the PM Fasal bima yojana the eligibility criteria and other details.

Exports:  you can get the details about the Agri-export zones in different areas along with the commodities

You can find the details about the veterinary centers and diagnosis laboratories nearby your areas. The details about the livestock census. As we discuss the portal is very helpful to the farmers. This portal at present is available in 6 languages including English so they should add the other language in future. So in local languages farmers can understand in better way. Some pages were still not working .So the concerned authority should make some efforts to keep the portal up to date .Overall we can say that the portal is very helpful one, farmers must take out the benefits out of it. The educated farmers can adopt the new information technologies and can teach others too about them. With the usage of IT and its application we can make the agriculture as smart agriculture .
