KVIC is a statutory body formed in the year 1957 by Government of India .It’s an apex organization under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) with headquarters at Mumbai with zonal offices at Delhi, Bhopal, Bangalore, Kolkata and Guwahati. For implementation various programs and to promote the KVIC industry it had offices in 28 states.  

                The main responsibility of the KVIC is to plan, promote, facilitate, organize and assist for the establishment and development of khadi and village industries in the rural areas with the help of other agencies. Apart from this commission also look at the implementation of programs and schemes related to Khadi and Village Industries.

In India Khadi based products were in high demand .Many people look for the khadi products but many a times they ends with fake products. The online shopping sites like Amazon, Flipkart, Snap deal etc. were also involved in sale of Khadi products. But many websites and market platforms in the name of Khadi were involved in selling fake products the customer. According to the reports KVIC has taken steps to tackle this malpractices it had sent legal notices to more than 1000 firms using Khadi India brand name to sell fake products and removed more than 160 web links thus damaging the reputation and the loss of work to Khadi artisans. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission the KVIC has started rolling out the e –commerce portal. Initially the KVIC has started its beta version which helped in fulfilling the demand in amid Covid situation as all stores were closed.

This newly launched portal will directly compete with e-commerce sites and market places such as Amazon, Flipkart etc. Around 58 categories products were sold by the KVIC on the portal. The main products under the brand name of Khadi India were as follows:
